Throughout the pandemic and long before it, ParaMed Home Health Care has played a vital role in home and community health care, connecting patients with access to the care they need. To help bridge care gaps in our community, ParaMed has once again partnered with Waterloo Region Public Health to continue its mobile vaccine clinic that provides homebound patients in Kitchener-Waterloo with a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Staffed by dedicated ParaMed nurses, the initiative started in 2021 to provide over 2,000 COVID-19 vaccines to homebound patients who are vulnerable, immunocompromised, or otherwise unable to leave their homes. Due to the enthusiastic response from nurses, patients and the community, and knowing vaccines are our best defense against COVID-19 and third doses are resulting in an important increase in protection against Omicron, the ParaMed mobile vaccine clinic is back.

Operating since the beginning of January, the clinic will support approximately 1,000 patients in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and has been expanded by local health authorities to provide additional vaccine clinics for 1,500 teachers and their families in advance of the return to in-person learning on January 17, 2022.

This initiative would not have been possible without our hard-working ParaMed nurses, including those who returned from retirement to assist in the effort. We applaud them for the critical role they are playing in vaccinating those in need and thank them for the work they do every day in service of our communities.

This partnership is one of many success stories of increased collaboration across Ontario’s health system, spurred by the challenges of the pandemic. We are proud step up and do our part.
